Foster Care

The IHS Foster Care Program benefits animals who have a good chance of adoption, but who are either too young, sick, injured, under socialized or emotionally stressed to survive in the shelter environment. Instead, these lucky animals are cared for and rehabilitated in a nurturing foster home. Healthy adult animals are also placed in foster care when space is limited in our shelters. Fostering is an excellent way for an animal to receive the one-on-one attention many of them so desire and need. Homes are provided by responsible people in the community who are either caring enough to open their door to them or want to "test drive" a particular pet with the hopes of adoption in the future. The term of residency is decided by the Foster Parent, It can be as little as 2 weeks or as long as you want. Applications are available upon request at the shelter. You must be at least 19 years old in order to apply. Adoptions The Adoption Program our ultimate achievement in reaching our goal of finding safe and loving permanent homes for our shelter animals. It is a focused, intuitive process that matches the right owners with the new pets. For more information please have a look at our Adoptions Overview. Sponsorships The Sponsorship Program is a unique way of supporting an individual animal without having to deal with the responsibilities of adoption or fostering. For as little as $4 a day you can sponsor a shelter pet and get them the food and medical attention they need. Like the children sponsorships you see on TV you'll receive photos of your sponsored pet and monthly updates on their health and well being. Applications are available upon request at the shelter.
